A quiet day in La Celle St Cloud

Today was a quiet day, deliberately. While both your intrepid travellers slept soundly last night, we were still feeling the effects of the two days of relentless travel.

Cate went with Birgit to the local large supermarket in the morning, while Tim was left at home to prepare his breakfast. Then Birgit was called away to her work as a local city councillor and Cate took Tim for a walk around the local vicinity to show him the local forest and the local shopping square.

Streetscape in La Celle St Cloud
La Celle St Cloud is a beautiful, small, affluent village/town. The local residential architecture is typically European and mosty 2 or 3 stories tall. The streets are narrow with cars parked all along one kerb (or sometimes up on the footpath). There are many old, statuesque trees in the neighbourhood as the village has been carved out of the natural woodland that was here. Birgit was telling us yesterday that La Celle St Could was first mentioned in the 13th Century when an abbey was operating here.

The forest that is adjacent to the village and cloaks the side of the escarpment between the centre of town and the plateau on which Birgit and Eric's house is built is wonderful. A classical European forest that calls to Tim's recollections of the forests described in fairy tales and ancient stories such as Robin Hood. Importantly, it's a forest quite unlike those found in Australia.

The rest of the day was whiled away at 'home' and included a nap in the afternoon after a beautiful light lunch provided by Birgit. Dinner was again on the rear deck as the weather has been ideal (mid-to-high 20s) and the summer twilight is just a wonder to be in.

Tomorrow, we will begin some adventuring in the city.
